Performed when an elder completes 80 years — traditionally marked by Sahasra Chandra Darshanam, the sighting of one thousand full moons, which falls at about 81 years and 8 months. Conducted for the couple together, with the wife present, and celebrated as a family occasion where children and grandchildren gather to honour the elders. The date is fixed by the family purohit according to the elder's birth nakshatra and the prescribed lunar count. Where the 60th year is marked by Sashtiabdapoorthi and the 70th by Bhimaratha Shanti, Sathabhishekam is the most auspicious of the longevity samskaras.

Vedic Procedure
Sankalpa in the elders' names
The ceremony begins with a sankalpa naming the couple, their gotra and nakshatra, and the completion of the thousand-full-moon count.
Ganapathi puja, punyahavachanam & kalash sthapana
Lord Ganesha is worshipped first, the space and participants are purified, and the sacred kalashas are established for the abhishekam.
Ayushya, Navagraha & Mrityunjaya homam
The fire is consecrated and offerings made for longevity, health, and the pacification of planetary influences, with Rudra japa as prescribed.
Sathabhishekam — the hundred-kalasha bath
The couple is seated together and bathed with sanctified water from the kalashas, followed by mangalya dharana and the renewal of marriage vows.
Elders' blessings, aarti & prasad
Dressed in new ceremonial attire, the couple bless the children and grandchildren, and the day closes with aarti, prasad, and family feast.
